Senior Spotlight: Ashton Artis

This week we shine our senior spotlight on Concord’s very own Ashton Artis, whose quiet intelligence has impacted many students and teachers around Concord High School.

Artis has been attending Concord since he was in fifth grade. In his free time, Artis likes to play basketball, which he says is also his favorite sport. When asked why basketball was his favorite sport, Artis stated, “It’s the community that makes it my favorite. It’s fun to play with a lot of people watching, which makes it enjoyable for me to play.”

Whether he is excelling in academics or playing on the basketball court, Artis has enjoyed his time here at Concord. Now, it is time to move on to a brand new chapter in his life. After high school, Artis plans to attend college. He is still unsure of where he is going to attend but wants to get a degree in engineering. Artis also has some other hobbies: he likes to play on his computer and watch videos on YouTube.

Ashton’s brother, Adair Artis shares what he is most proud of Ashton for. He says, “I like how he continuously takes things into his own hands instead of getting help; that shows that he has a good sense of independence.”

A good friend of Artis’s, Owen Kidder shares what he likes most about him as a friend. He states, “Despite his quiet nature, he is very caring and compassionate for his friends. He’s driven and gives out a helping hand whenever it is needed.  I know he will go far after graduation.”

Math teacher, Ms. Fields was excited to praise one of her senior students: “ My favorite thing about Ashton is the way he can stay focused when he is working on his math problems and anything that he does he stays focused; I also feel like he is gritty and doesn’t give up in areas that he struggles in.”

As Artis has attended Concord for many years, he has gained knowledge that has turned him into the person that he is today. Artis shares one piece of advice that he has for upcoming freshmen: “Try not to look too far ahead into the future, it will all keep up with you if you just stay focused and keep up on your school work.

Ashton is a friend to all. We truly thank him for the example he has set around Concord and for his caring attitude toward everyone. We want to wish him the best of luck wherever life takes him and  know he will do truly amazing things in the bright future that is being held for him.
