Three amazing athletes sign their college commitments, ready to move on to bigger things! Cece Barrett, Jordyan Metcalf, and Connor Stevens will continue to pursue their dreams in their sport. They have all received offers for not only their athleticism but also their sportsmanship and dedication to their teams.
Cece Barrett has been playing basketball since she was able to walk. She has earned numerous awards and will go down in history as one of the best players. She’s broken records for scoring. Barrett will be attending Spring Arbor University for sports medicine and to play basketball. Barrett adds how she felt about getting all of her accomplishments: “Playing basketball for Concord has been very rewarding and has taken a lot of hard work. I’m glad I have accomplished what I have. I feel like I have worked hard for everything I’ve earned.” Even though basketball can be a lot at times, one thing she’s taken away from her high school career is the relationships she’s built with her teammates that will last a long time. Her coach is extremely proud of the athlete she has become.
Another outstanding athlete, Jordyan Metcalf, is committed to Heidelberg Univerisity for wrestling. Jordyan has been the greatest women’s wrestler in the history of Concord. She has won so many matches and broken a record for the fastest pin. Her coaches are incredibly proud of her as she has grown so much and continues to grow. Metcalf is extremely dedicated and proud of what she has accomplished during her time in varsity wrestling. “I’m glad that all my hard work has paid off and has been noticed. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue wrestling in college. I’m also very thankful for all the people who have pushed me and helped me get to where I am today.”
Connor Stevens will be going to Trine University to continue his basketball career. He is an outstanding player. He has broken records for scoring and rebounds. Connor is honored to have been able to complete everything he’s done and says, “I have achieved all the goals I’ve wanted. To go out with a state championship is awesome. My experience was up and down, but I think there was more up than down. One thing I’ve taken away from sports is that you have to be together because if you’re not together as a team, you’re not gonna win. Trust your teammates and know you can’t do it all by yourself.” Stevens wants to be the best player he can be and do whatever it takes to win. One piece of advice Stevens would give would be “ don’t rely on yourself and never take anything for granted because you’ll really never know when you play the last game so give everything you’ve got on the floor.”
Athletic director Matt Lehman has watched these athletes play their sports for a long time and has watched them improve so incredibly. He explains, “ I think that all three of the athletes have multiple things in common, but one thing that they all have a lot of is that they’re outstanding students in the classroom. I think when you get it done in the classroom, you have the discipline on the mat on the court, wherever you are, to be good. You could always see that they had the potential, and I think you could always see that they had the potential to be really good. Their attitude and effort, you just watch them grow every year, it all goes back to discipline, and they’re all disciplined kids.”
We are so incredibly proud of these athletes, and can’t wait to see what the future brings—wishing them all the best!
