As the end of the school year approaches, on Friday, May 1st, seniors prepare to present what their next steps are in their lives after high school. Before this, many students begin to notice that seniors are preparing to move on to the next stages in their lives, whether that means attending the career center, taking advanced courses, constantly looking for jobs, or considering the college they’d attend.
This morning, students gathered in the gym for the assembly. Everyone other than the seniors sits on the bleachers; the seniors sit in front of them. Before the video for our seniors’ plans was shown, Mrs. Otto gave a speech. In this speech, she talked about living a legacy, and that it is built on everyday actions. Many students found this personally inspiring and helpful.

Mrs. Otto says, “legacy leads to a lasting impression. By identifying the legacy we want to leave, we choose work where we can do these actions, and this also leads to our own success and happiness.”
Some students may think this day is unnecessary or should be optional to attend, but this day is not just for the seniors; it’s for all students to realize their options after high school. Most of the options that most seniors are choosing are dental, trades, nursing, and enforcement. This was shown by a video including what college and classes they would enroll in, as well as what they would be, with music in the background.

When Julia Stevens, a senior, was asked about the importance of decision day and how it was impactful to her in her freshman year, she stated, “It gave me a chance to see my options for when I graduate. I’d say decision day was important to my freshman experience.”
Although this event was created for college students, many other schools, including ourselves, adopted this event to inspire their students to be prepared to make a decision and be given an opportunity to think about what careers they want to pursue in their future.
