On May 18th, the boys’ golf team traveled to Arbor Hills in Jackson to compete in the Parma Western Gold Invitational. On this beautiful day, the boys scored a total of 415. Liam Bauman led the way with a score of 93, Carter Vandenburgh scored 94, Peyton Payne scored 112, and Keaton Smith scored 116.

One of our top scorers during this meet, sophomore Carter Vandenburgh, talks about his performance: “I started off bad, but as I played a few holes and got warmed up, my performance began to improve.” When asked about his improvements during the season, Vandenburgh shares that at the beginning of the season, his main focus was swinging hard; as the season progressed, his swings began to become smoother. A goal for the next meeting is starting it off stronger and beating his score.

The boys played hard throughout the day, the warm weather providing a harder challenge for them, but they powered through. During the meeting, Keaton Smith was interviewed. When asked about his improvements, he shares that his driver has improved. When asked about his future goals, he shares that he wants to “keep it in the forties.”
On May 19th, the boys traveled right back to Arbor Hills for their Big 8 Conference meet. During this meeting, the boys overall scored a 379. Brady Garrett led the way with a score of 84, and Liam Bauman was close behind with a score of 95.
Mike Bauman, the boys’ golf coach, adds, “Many of them went through swing changes. That takes a lot of trust and work to go through and get better. I always look forward to the next season and the improvements the players have made over the summer and what they bring into the next season.” Throughout the season, the boys have continuously improved. We cannot wait to see what great things they will do.
