Meet Gabriella Herzberg, an outstanding student here at CHS. She’s dedicated and stubborn, but for all the right reasons. She’s a multi-sport athlete who plays year-round. She participates in Volleyball, both inside and outside the school program, as well as basketball and softball. She’s also participated in track and field in her previous years.
She hopes to continue her softball career throughout college. She and her mother have worked on her skills since she was two years old. “I instantly fell in love with it. It has been my dream to play college softball, especially at my dream school.” Herzberg adds. Throughout the years, she has dedicated countless hours to practice, honing her techniques and building her strength on the field. With unwavering support from her family, she believes that her hard work and determination will help her achieve her goal of playing at the next level.
Next year, Herzberg is planning to attend Michigan State University in the fall. She will be taking her courses in the Department of Agriculture. When asked about her plans, she lets us know, “I’ve always wanted to work and be around animals for as long as I can remember, especially livestock.” She hopes to gain hands-on experience through internships. Herzberg is excited to learn more about animal care and management.
Herzberg has made many friends over her school years, but one with whom she has really bonded is a sophomore, Delaney Colburn. The friendship started during Herzberg’s junior year during the girls’ basketball season. They really bonded on the court, and the friendship has only grown. “Gabby was a sister on and off the court to me. She showed me how it was to have a love for the sport by just having her by my side.”
Another friend of hers is Reagan Mehl, A junior. Their friendship began in middle school, when Mehl was in 6th grade, and Herzberg was in 7th. Their friendship especially bloomed during the volleyball season and stuck ever since. One memory from their friendship was during a game against Maple Valley during Herzberg’s junior year: “During the game, the girls were really aggressive. Gabby and I would stand behind the free-throw line to compare our scratches. We found this really funny, and I wasn’t going to play basketball that year. I’m really happy I did. We shared a lot of laughs.” Mehl wants to add, “Gabby is a very supportive friend and encouraging. She’s helped me through a lot of situations. She is very determined and knows what to say. I have always appreciated her as a friend

, and I will miss her so dearly when she goes to college. I pray she is someone I keep in touch with throughout the years and reconnect with every once in a while.”
Herzburg has a variety of hobbies that keep her connected to the great outdoors. Among her favorites are hunting and fishing, where she enjoys the thrill of the chase and the peacefulness of quiet moments by the water. She also plays an active role in caring for her aunt’s horse, which deepens her bond with the animal and enhances her skills in
horsemanship. Spending her days outside, whether exploring scenic trails or tending to the horse, brings her immense joy. From the moment she learned to walk, Herzburg has been drawn to nature, constantly seeking new adventures that allow her to appreciate the beauty of the world around her.
Herzberg’s softball coach, Coach Buck, has always been close with Herzberg. “One of my favorite parts of coaching Gabby is that she is very competitive and very fiery, which at the same time can be to her own detriment.” They both have a very special bond, and Buck is very excited to see her progress in her future.

As her senior year comes to a close, Gabriella Herzberg’s journey at CHS has been marked by hard work, passion, and strong friendships. As she hopes to attend Michigan State University to pursue her dream of playing college softball and studying agriculture, she leaves a lasting impact on her peers and coaches. With her determination and love for the outdoors, there is no doubt that she will continue to succeed in all her future endeavors.
