Our boys’ basketball team faced the Bronson Vikings on the night of Snowcoming, The final score was 68-25. This was a great night for the boys as they played fiercely, securing another victory. A great game for the boys led into an exciting night as the students also ended their week long celebration with the king and queen crowning and then the Snowcoming dance.

Jett Smith scored 22 points, making him the night’s lead scorer. Connor Stevens was right behind him adding 18 with 13 remarkable rebounds, and Darrell Dean Jr. threw in 12. Brady Garrett, Marcus Gill Jr. and Zack Stevens punched in a few as well. The boys remain on top in the Big 8 tied for first place, now being 7-1 and 13-3 overall.
Brady Garrett shares his opinion on the teams improvement: “We pushed the ball and transitioned a whole lot more than usual, which made communication a whole lot easier.” He also expressed some things that the team could work on, such as how fast they get back on defense; Garrett believes this is a huge improvement they need to succeed.
Junior Darrell Dean Jr. explained, “The communication on the team tonight worked really well, as everyone was moving quickly in transition and getting back on defense.” Dean also believes the intense and full crowds to him are more of a motivation during games like this. He handles the pressure of them by staying focused and making the game his priority.

Trenton Frazer tells how he motivates his teammates by using positive words of encouragement and reinforces that they do the same for him even after mistakes. Frazer believes the chemistry between each teammate is great because no one gets selfish with the ball and everyone takes the time to communicate. Frazer also expressed his opinion on intense crowds saying that all the yelling is blocked out when he’s locked in on the court.
Junior varsity unfortunately lost to a score of 53-62 that went into overtime. It was an exciting head-to-head game in which the boys played with much determination.
The boys next home game is Friday, February 6 against Stockbridge. The JV game will start at 5:30 pm and Varsity at 7pm. Come show some support for the Concord Yellowjackets!
