On Tuesday, the Concord Varsity girls’ basketball team played hard against the Reading Rangers, earning another win with a score of 62-17. They continue to be undefeated in the Big Eight Conference with 3-0, overall they are 6-1 this season. The girls continue to excel, showcasing all the strength and agility they have worked so hard to develop.
In the first half, Concord left Reading packing their bags with barely any points. Concord continued to play tough throughout, and in the end, they were rewarded with the score of 48-9. Junior Haley Stimer encourages the team to look forward to the next play and try their best because we’re all better when were happy. Haley said, “I think we did pretty well! We got our goal for what we wanted to do going into the game by keeping them from scoring points,” she added. “All the points were pretty far spread out.”

Coming out of halftime, Concord showed no signs of slowing down. Their defense stayed tight, forcing turnovers and limiting Reading’s scoring opportunities. The team worked well together, sharing the ball and racking up points as the crowd cheered them on, scoring 56-15 in the third quarter. Sophomore Delaney Colburn said, “My biggest goal was to be very supportive of my teammates. I look up to Cece because she’s always very kind and hard working.”

Freshman Braelynn Thorrez is a starter for the varsity. Thorrez is new to high school, but she has already adjusted to varsity life. She played confidently on the court, proving she can compete at a high level despite being a freshman. Thorrez mentioned that high school basketball is a big step from middle school due to them playing at a higher level; they are a lot better, so it’s really hard to play against them, especially with her being only a freshman. Thorrez explained, “My greatest achievement in this game was my defense and trying to shut down the person I was guarding, mostly because she was the best on her team.”
In the end, the team worked together to secure a win with strong defense, consistent scoring, and support from every player on the court. Concord proved why they remain undefeated in the Big Eight. The girls continue to build momentum as they move forward this season. If you want to see the girls in action, their next game is January 9th at Stockbridge. The Junior Varsity game will begin at 5:30, and the Varsity game will begin at 7:00.
