On January 5th, the first day off of winter break, our competitive cheer team traveled to Springport’s Invitational to compete and strongly showcase their prideful routines for each round.
Our cheer team has been working tirelessly to make major improvements since their first competition of the season on December 13th to get a higher score and place at each invitational. They believe this season will be better because they are working harder than ever to have trust and confidence in each other.

Trust and sportsmanship are always essential components of being an athlete; without these traits, a team will fall apart. It is always important to keep a positive mindset about no matter what.
When Genevieve Chadwell, in her fifth year of competitive cheerleading, was asked about how she learned from this invitational, she said, “Always think positive and not negative, because if we think negatively, it’s going to impact how we feel and how we perform.”
Madison Drew, also in her fifth year of competitive cheerleading, says, “We can’t let our adrenaline get the best of us, because I feel like we were all really nervous.”

While they placed 6th, major improvements have been made since last year’s season. These kinds of sports events are based on building skills to prepare for the end of the season, where skills actually matter and how solid they are.
A key goal for the majority of the team is to learn new skills, but more importantly, to gain more confidence and trust, as well as develop sportsmanship, which will set the team up for success.
This team has such a great future ahead of them, and we can’t wait to see the outcome of their set goals and successes! Wish the best of luck to our competitive cheer team as they compete this Saturday at Addison starting at 10:00 am.
