Let’s shine the spotlight on a magnificent senior here at CHS! Meet Connor Stevens, if you haven’t already. Many students here would consider Stevens as a friend to all and an overall positive influence on the school. From his laughs that echo through the halls to his academic and athletic performance, Stevens deserves some recognition for all he puts into each day.
Stevens moved to Concord in 2017 for his third-grade year and has stuck around ever since. He ensures that he maintains his grades, earning numerous academic recognitions for his hard work. He will attend Trine University in the fall, not only for his academic pursuits but his basketball career.
One of his teammates, Marcus Gill Jr, a sophomore on the varsity basketball team, shares that Stevens is like a big brother to him; he looks up to him in many ways. He adds, “He’s a kind and helpful person both on and off the court, always making sure I have what I need and always picking my head up with it’s down.” Gill Jr. also notes that Connor helps him in the weight room and pushes him to be the best version of himself.
Stevens has been playing basketball for his whole life, and it is now his main sport. He has been on varsity for all four years of high school and has pushed himself through many hard practices and games. He grew up with basketball as a huge part of his life, which has continued through his journey to adulthood. Stevens shares what inspir

ed him to start his basketball career, “Whether it was playing in the driveway with family or watching games together, it became a part of who I am. I wanted to try it out for myself.”

His coach, Marcus Gill, has been coaching Connor since his freshman year. Gill shares, “Coaching Connor Stevens has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. He’s the kind of kid every coach hopes to have: hard-working, tough, and relentlessly coachable. What stands out most is that he never asks for anything he isn’t willing to earn.” He continues to add how proud he is of Stevens. “Connor carries himself with maturity and humility that make him feel less like a player I coach and more like family. Coaching Connor hasn’t just been good. It’s been special!”
Not only does Stevens run track and play basketball, but he also leads a bible study group, as well as has his own weight room. He loves to invite his friends over and lift weights in the morning. He strongly encourages his teammates to lift whenever they can to be the best athletes they can be.

Julia Stevens, his younger sister, shares some of her favorite memories with Connor. She talks about their experiences at Sattler’s during sophomore year. She shares that they had a great time causing chaos and making cones. They’ve also both participated in Multimedia Publications throughout high school. Julia shares, “I also have a lot of good memories from being in Publications together. It’s a lot of fun to be in the same class.”
Stevens has written many articles for the Chronicle over the years and has had a powerful impact on the school, pushing through struggles with unwilling interviewees and criticism. Ms. Kelly has experienced this right by his side, helping him through it all. Kelly shares, “When I first met Connor during his freshman year, all I remember is his uncanny ability to get the whole class laughing at random moments. Sophomore year he joined Publications where he continued to entertain us in the classroom or on walks around town to practice photography skills. The last few years Connor has matured, growing in his leadership abilities and in his faith. He is on a path to becoming a man with purpose who lives a life filled with kindness and joy.”
Stevens is an amazing role model for everybody here; his wonderful personality and high goals are truly inspiring. Stevens has brought so much light into Concord, and for that, we cannot thank him enough.
