The week leading up to snowcoming night is full of festivities and fun. We started the week strong with a snow day. The students got to get extra rest before the busy week, and planning outfits began.
Tuesday, we combined the spirit day with Monday’s to create a pajama party and student-teacher switch day. During this day, people wore their comfiest pajamas. Varying from silk to crazy Grinch pants. Some of the students dressed as their favorite teacher, with khaki pants and button-ups, and the teachers wore their big eyelashes and colorful clothes.
On Wednesday, the students and teachers dressed up as their favorite ecosystem. Many dressed in camo, while others wore bright Hawaiian shirts. This spirit theme was a new, exciting one for the students, and many enjoyed scavenging through their closets to find the perfect outfit.
Thursday was another exciting day; the students and the teachers dressed as their favorite memes. The girls’ basketball team all dressed as the quarter zip meme so they could wear their uniforms for game day, while others went all out for the day. One student who dressed up every day this week was Allie Morris; she had many unique and fun outfits this week. When interviewed about her participation, she shares, “Schools are kind of boring, so the spirit week gives us something exciting to look up to.”
Last but not least, Friday was a busy but exciting day. Members of the student council were running all over trying to get prepared for the perfect night. A lot of students were finishing up their banners for the pep rally as well, their hands covered in glue and the floors covered in papers. Traditionally, the theme was purple and gold to show the school spirit. Many wore their favorite school shirts, while others went all out with sequins and bright colors.
At the end of the day, the pep rally finally began. The assembly began with the snowcoming court members stepping onto the floor. After their presentation, the games began. The student council began to set up seven chairs in a circle. Two students from each grade stepped up to battle for first place, each holding a basketball. Once the music began, the students began to circle around the chairs. Suddenly, the music would cut out, and the students would race to either basketball hoop to make a layup. Once the ball falls into the hoop, they receive it and run back to a chair. The last student standing was out. This continued until there were two students left. Brady Garret led the senior class to victory in this game.

The next two competitions occurred at the same time; a hula hoop competition required two students from each grade to come down to the floor. Grace Lewis, a sophomore, participated in this competition. When asked about the pep assembly, she lets us know, “I really liked the games you don’t see anywhere else, like the wig snatching. When I saw others participating, it influenced me to because it looked so fun.”

While the students were hula hooping, a wig snatching contest was held. Two students from each class came down and put on colorful wigs. This is a new game for CHS, which many students enjoyed. They stayed within the volleyball court lines and ran around, trying to eliminate others from the game. At the end of the game, the seniors won, with both seniors still standing. During the hula hoop competition, Avery Arbuckle led the junior class to victory.
The next competition was tug-of-war. The competition led to the sophomore class winning. Right after this game, five students from each grade came down to the floor. This game required four of their strongest students and one who would sit in the middle of a bedsheet. Then the four people would pick up their person with the bedsheet and run a lap around the gym; the fastest team was the senior class, which led them to be the winners. Audrey Pyle, a freshman, also participated in this game. When interviewed about her participation, she shares, “You can see everybody is laughing and smiling while they were participating, and it looked really fun, so I decided to go try it myself.”
Last but not least, the final competition was the battle cry. The cheerleaders led this competition; each grade had a chance to stand up and see who was the loudest in the gym. After great contemplation between the Junior and Sophomore classes, after many redos of stomping and yelling, the judges finally decided. The junior class won this game.
After a long assembly of games and cheering, the students were ready for the game and dance. Many students left talking about the upcoming events, and excitement was buzzing through the air.
