As the beginning of the second semester approaches, our annual Snowcoming celebration is underway. Last week, representatives from each grade were chosen, along with five pairs of king and queen candidates from the senior class.

Beginning with the freshman class, Zakarian Stevens is our first male representative. He is the son of Wes and Jaime Stevens. He is a member of the Varsity basketball team. He is also a member of the student council and the Grit AAU team. His favorite class is art with Mr. Couling. Some of his favorite hobbies outside of school and sports include hanging out with family and friends, playing basketball, going to church, golfing, and hunting with grandpa Brian. Zack was asked what qualities represented his class’s spirit. “We’re competitive because we all want to work together and win,” Zack says.
Next, the female representative for the freshman class is Braelynn Thorrez. She is the daughter of Christopher and Whitney Thorrez. She is a member of the cross country, basketball, softball, and track teams. She is also a member of the student council and the Premier AAU team. Her favorite class is health and fitness with Mrs. Sigman. Some of her favorite hobbies outside of sports and school include hanging out with family and friends, playing basketball, and going to church.
For the sophomore class, Marcus Gill Jr. was chosen. He is the son of Marcus and Ebony Gill. He is a member of the Varsity basketball and track team. His favorite classes are history, art, and passing time. Some of his favorite hobbies outside of school and sports include church, playing the game with Bradyn, sleeping, and spending time with his friend Derrell. “When people see me representing the class, I would want them to feel proud of me and my accomplishments,” says Gill Jr.

The female representative is Kaitlyn Lack. She is the daughter of Sarah Lack and Diesel Sprauge. She has been a member of the JV volleyball and cheer team. Her favorite class is Mr. Couling’s art class with the GOAT and wife Rakai. Some of her favorite hobbies outside of school and sports include going on vacations, babysitting, and spending time with friends.

Our third class representative is Colten Gray. He is the son of Chad and Cari Gray. He is a member of the Varsity basketball and baseball teams. He is also a part of the NHS and attends the first baptist church of Albion. His favorite classes are AP Lang. and Adv. Chem. Some of his favorite hobbies outside of school and sports include hunting, snowmobiling, snowboarding, and working.
Also representing the junior class is Bradie Lehman. She is the daughter of Matt and Kathy Lehman. She is a member of the Varsity volleyball, basketball, and track teams. She is also a part of the student council and NHS teams. Her favorite class is AP Lang with Mrs. O. Some of her favorite hobbies outside of school and sports include hanging out with friends, shopping, and spending time with family. Lehman says she shows inclusivity and respect to her peers by being a loving captain on all of her teams.
Finally, introducing this year’s king and queen candidates:
Our first male candidate is Jett Smith. He is the son of Nikki and Link Smith. He is a member of the Varsity basketball

team. His favorite class is art with Mr. Couling and his little GOATs. Some of his favorite hobbies outside of school and sports include hanging out with friends, playing video games, and playing basketball. After high school, he plans to go to college for sports management. Smith believes that he is a positive presence in the community, “by being kind to everyone because you never know what they’re going through.”
Walking with him is Bella Coppernoll. She is the daughter of Kristina and Kirk Mandrelle and Bryon Coppernoll. She is a member of the Varsity volleyball and track teams. She is also a part of the NHS and is the Co-president of the student council. Her favorite classes are human body systems with Mrs. Fiero, and leadership with Mrs. O. Some of her favorite hobbies outside of school and sports include fishing, hanging out with family and friends, especially Cece and Julia, watching tv, and playing Fortnite with Cece and Mya. After high school, she plans to major in animal science at Michigan State University.

Up next is Tyler Rundle, the son of Travis and Sarah Rundle. He is a member of the Varsity football, basketball, and track teams. He also partakes in weightlifting and hiking. His favorite classes are current events and pre-calc. Some of his hobbies include camping, fishing, and having the nicest mullet. After high school, he plans to attend Albion College, where he will study business.
Our next female candidate is Cece Barrett. She is the daughter of Jessie and Eric Barrett. She is a member of the Varsity cross-country, golf, basketball, track, and softball teams, as well as the student council and NHS. Her favorite class is human body systems with Mrs. Fiero. Some of her favorite hobbies outside of school and sports include fishing, watching movies, hunting, and hanging out with family and friends (especially Bella and Julia). After high school, she plans to attend Spring Arbor University and major in exercise science. When asked what values she believed were important while running for queen, she answered, “being a good role model and someone that others can look up to.”
Our next male candidate is Johnathon Clouser. He is the son of John Clouser and Jill Ruede. He is a member of our

Varsity basketball team and AP computer science. His favorite class is strength and conditioning. Outside of school and sports, he enjoys skateboarding and playing basketball. After high school, he wants to go to Jackson Community College to be an electrician. Clouser proclaims, “If I’m remembered [after graduation], I would like to be remembered for my personality.
Next up is Jordyan Metcalf. She is the daughter of Amanda Young. She is a part of the Varsity wrestling, softball, and sideline cheer teams. She is also involved in the NHS, Jackson Career Center, Jackson Explorer Program, and coaching elementary wrestling. Her favorite class is Spanish cultures of modern language. Some of her favorite hobbies, other than school and sports, include working out, reading, and hanging out with her friends, family, and boyfriend. She is committed to Heidelberg University, where she will wrestle and study criminology. In the future, she hopes to become a police officer through the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Maddox Hutchinson is our next king candidate. He is the son of Rebecca and Eric Hutchinson. He is a member of the Varsity cross country, indoor track, and track teams. He also partakes in robotics, band, and the Jackson Youth Symphony Orchestra. His favorite classes are robotics, band, and calculus. Maddox loves playing the guitar, hanging out with friends, and going to Biggby. He plans to attend the University of Michigan and study mechanical engineering.
Walking with Maddox is Marissa Mandrelle. She is the daughter of Stephanie Cooper and Kirk Mandrelle. She is a part of the Varsity volleyball, cheer, track, and softball teams. Alongside this, she also enjoys attending church, working, and baking. Her favorite classes are Mr. K’s statistics class, study skills, anatomy, and art. After high school, she plans to study nursing at Jackson College for two years, then transfer to Baker College for the rest. When asked what school spirit means to her, Mandrelle responds, “people dressing up for the dress-up days and actually participating.”
Last but not least, our final king candidate is Connor Stevens. He is the son of

Wes and Jaime Stevens. He is a member of the Varsity basketball and track teams. He also participates in the NHS and is a three-year publications student. His favorite class is personal finance with Mr. Buck. Some of his favorite hobbies include praying, lifting weights, and playing Fortnite with his friends. After high school, he plans to go to Trine to play basketball, where he will also get his business degree.
Our final queen candidate is Julia Stevens, daughter of Wes and Jaime Stevens. She is a member of the girls’ golf team and is the manager for our girls’ basketball team. She is also the president of the student council, vice president of NHS, and an editor for our Concord Chronicle. Her favorite classes are publications with Ms. Kelly and leadership with Mrs. O. In her free time, she enjoys reading, taking photos, watching tv, spending time with her family, and hanging out with Cece and Bella. After high school, she will attend Michigan State University’s honors college to major in psychology. Julia shares, “I would be very grateful [to be chosen for queen] because I would hope it means that I influence people positively.”
We wish the best for all of our current representatives, and luck to those running for king and queen. We hope everyone’s Snowcoming experience this year is one to remember.
