On Friday, Concord stormed the field, ready for a tough game against the 4-1 Pittsford team. Their perseverance and commitment to succeed was incredible. Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets lost with a score of 50-12; through each quarter, they proved the score does not define your team.
In the first quarter, Pittsford began to exceed in points, but we exceeded in improvement. As Pittsford decided to run the ball for a two-point conversion, they failed against an effective defense.
As the sun started setting leading into the second quarter, Pittsford had another failed two-point conversion, putting Concord in a good position. Gavin Riske, leading the team with 39 rushing yards and 211 passing yards, had an outstanding first touchdown 11-yard pass to senior Jordan Medellin, who led the team with 93 receiving yards. After Pittsford got a two-point conversion, Nathan Fritz caught a 31-yard pass from quarterback Gavin Riske, increasing the score from 6 to 12. Concord ended the first half with two touchdowns and the mindset to stop Pittsford.
Finally, as the third and fourth quarters came around, Concord continued to play their hardest against the outstanding Pittsford team. They might have lost, but they had an eventful game full of mental toughness, leadership, and resilience.
After the game, Coach Clark commended a player who really stood out to him, stating, “Charlie Cole, a freshman, did an amazing job coming in without any warning. I am super proud of Charlie.” Clark also explains how he prepares for games like this: “We come up with a game plan from whatever is shown on film.”
Junior Christian Castro has a very strong opinion on leadership. When asked about something that he feels could’ve gone better, he explains, “I think we could have been more motivated together as a team as in staying together and not letting the downplays get to us.” He also has a goal for the rest of the season: “Trying to do our best and translate practice to the field.”
Junior Nate Fritz, who is a receiver, says that “this game could prepare us for the next game defense-wise, by knowing when there’s a run and knowing what shoulders to attack.”
The Concord Yellowjackets will play again at Holgate Saturday, Oct 12, at 2:30.
