2024 Prom tips and hot takes

May 4th is approaching, and we are rushing to find what to where. Juniors and seniors are desperately trying to find what to wear for this year’s prom. Here are some hot takes and tips about what to wear and where to locate clothes for both men and women.

Grace Thorrez answers a tricky question: What is an overrated color for prom dresses or suits? Thorrez replies, “I’ll say red and black; that’s what many people wear for every dance event.” Red and black dresses are simply too basic and overrated. Although they look good, they are overused. So, let’s change it up. And no, that doesn’t mean hot pink dresses; that too is overused.”

Let’s start with a bright blue, not dark blue. Girls can take the chance and look like Cinderella, literally. Since Easter dresses are trending on TikTok, this is a great color for an Easter dress. This trend was a thing back then during the 2000s, but many people thought it was not a good-looking dress. Now, TikTok has decided to bring back this look, and many people love it despite the negative reviews of this dress style. If you like this style or any other dress, it should not matter what other people think, ladies, so go with what you want!

Don’t shy away from orange; it’s a color that can make a bold statement. Many people avoid this color, thinking it doesn’t suit them, so you rarely see someone in an orange prom dress. But with the right hairstyle, the right shade of orange for your skin, and some beautiful accessories, you can rock this color. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re daring enough to try, you might be the one to pull it off.

Light pink or purple is a great color, too! When walking past people at your prom, you can look like a sleeping beauty or a walking princess. A million different styles of dresses come in these colors, so you have many options to choose from. Another trendy style that goes well with these colors is ball gowns.

Men, you’ll look good in any color, and you better wear the same color your partner is wearing. But if you don’t have a partner, blue is a good color. Blue would go well if you have blue eyes and blonde hair. Red is another color that guys tend to wear often, and it’s not a poor choice.

Riley Aiken has different ideas. When asked what suit to wear, he replied, “I’m going in a dress.” Aiken plans on wearing a leopard print dress to outshine the boys with suits. He will undoubtedly be the best dressed at prom.

Let’s explore different places to shop for prom dresses. One popular spot is Winsdor. This store, which offers various colors and dresses, can be found in malls in Michigan and other states like Ohio. Winsdor can be overcrowded, and your time in the dressing room is limited if there’s a good amount of people shopping there, especially if there is a long line for the dressing room. The price is not high, which suits people on a budget.

Blue By Atlas Bridal Shop is another store with beautiful dresses in Toledo, Ohio. This can be a long drive, but the dresses are worth it. These can be pricey dresses, so keep that in mind. Unique Lady Bridal & Prom is located in Southfield, MI. This place is also costly, but it’s in Michigan if you don’t want to go out of state for a prom dress.

Keep in mind that the theme for Prom is Enchanted, so if you have any ideas that look fairytale-ish, go for it! When asked what Mykala Drew thought about the theme, she replied, “I think it’s a really cute theme with a lot of potential for cute decorations and outfits! I’m excited to see what the student council will do for the decorations because I like fairytales and fairies.”

Go shop for your suits and dresses fast before it’s too late! Remember, wear whatever makes you feel the best, and don’t worry about other people’s thoughts. Prom tickets go on sale on April 15; they cost $20 per person.
