This week, we are shining the spotlight on a wonderful student artist, Annie Saenz. Saenz is a sophomore here at Concord, and her talent shines both in and out of the classroom. She uses her creativity and unique ideas to bring her drawings to life.

Annie has been drawing for her whole life, and when asked what inspires her work, she shared: “I think my grandma and aunts from my dad’s side who like to draw have definitely inspired my work. I’m also inspired by many artists and different styles because it allows me to expand my ideas and creativity for more of my current and future work.” Annie’s art is not only visually impressive, but it also shows how much she cares through her strong attention to detail.
One of her favorite pieces she has ever created was her acrylic orchid painting. She explained, “Acrylic paintings are not my favorite. I didn’t really want to do it, but I knew that it would push me past my comfort zone and make me a better artist. It ended up being one of my favorites though.” Her willingness to challenge herself and step outside of what feels comfortable is what helps her continue to grow as an artist.
Lilie Vandenburgh, a good freind of Saenz shares about her drawings, she shares, ” Her drawings are really great, they give me motivation to want to be a better artist. I love how hard she works at it and how passionate she is about it as well.
Outside of school, Annie enjoys sports, doing her nails, and baking. She hopes to explore even more art styles in the future through new projects and different types of artwork.

Mr. Couling, who has watched Annie grow as an artist, shared what stands out most about her work: “When I think about Annie’s artwork, I think about her attention to detail. Her paintings are very painterly you call it where the colors just blend really well, and they vibrate and pop off the page. They’re so realistic, yet you know they’re a painting. They’re just incredible, with a lot of detail.”
Mr. Couling also spoke highly of Annie as a student and classmate, adding: “Annie is always so helpful in class and works really hard and is dedicated not only to her art but sports, and she’s generally accepted amongst all of the classmates.”

We are honored to feature Annie Saenz in this Artist Spotlight. We wish her the best of luck with her upcoming artwork and continued success as a student here at Concord. We can’t wait to see what she creates next.
