Mrs. Osterhaut hosted a Gatsby party/potluck based on the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald for her AP Literature class . This was a fun spin at the end of a successful semester. to relieve some of the stress of taking a hard class. This class is available for juniors and seniors who are looking to challenge themselves.
Mrs. Osterhaut chose the Gatsby book because she wanted to teach a different book than the other years. ¨I always wanted to try and do Gatsby because it is a good book. I knew the kids would enjoy it.¨ After teaching the book for the first time, she confirms that she will teach it again next year: ¨It´s been different from anything else we´ve read, and I think it’s better than the books I have been teaching previous years.¨
Dressed in a gold flapper dress complete with gloves, stockings, and jewelry was Paige Morris. She states, ¨It’s good for your GPA and looks good for college credits, and it’s a better way to further your learning.¨ Paige also remarked that reading the book and throwing the party is a good way to end the semester.

Pouring the sparkling grape juice to start their party off was Iyla weeks. She says taking AP classes is less stressful than regular classes because ¨you can get more one-on-one. Although there is more work, there is more personal teaching and they are willing to help you succeed.¨ Iyla talking about the party says, ¨ we liked the book, so we wanted to put our own interpretation on it with the party.¨
In dress pants and a white dress shirt tucked in was Dustin Hamilton. He states the benefits of taking an AP test so students can get college credits. Enjoying the party he says, ¨I think our little party is great, it is going to be a good memory to have our senior year.¨
They all enjoyed their well-deserved party and good food while watching the movie. While the class may be rigorous, they have a supportive teacher to help them through it. When students work hard., they get to experience the celebration that paid off for the hard work that makes learning more enjoyable.
