This week’s community spotlight is on Mel’s Place, a local diner in Concord. Mel’s has been around Concord for two years now, serving great breakfast for everybody in Concord and the surrounding area.

Melinda Teubert owns the restaurant; she has a few employees. Teubert says that she “loves running a restaurant and owning one.” Teubert said she never thought about running and owning a restaurant. “I was an X-ray technician for 30 years and thought I would try a different aspect in life and started Mel’s place.”

With many different options on the menu, Teubert shares that there is a most popular option. “Definitely the Mel burger and Biscuits and Gravy are the most well-known and popular items on the menu,” she explains.

Mr. Buck, the math teacher here at Concord was asked a few questions about his thoughts on Mel’s. He says, “I recommend the omelets; they are really good. I personally like the Meat Lovers and also the breakfast sandwiches are really good. They also do eggs and bacon with toast, which is really good but that’s good no matter where you go.”

Buck was asked if he comes here often. He says, “ I actually go with the football team every Friday, and I also come here on Wednesday mornings with my men’s church group.”

C.J Smith, a senior here at Concord explains his thoughts: “The food is really good, you get a great amount of food for a low price, and also has a lot of flavor to it.” Smith adds, “The service there is really great; they actually have a student that goes to our school here, so it’s always good to wait for our food and chop it up with him while we are waiting for it.”

Mr. Clark, the varsity Football coach here at Concord, explains how Mel’s has offered many team bonding moments over the years. He says, “On Friday mornings ever since I was in middle school, which was in the ’90s, the varsity football team has been coming down here and eating breakfast on Friday mornings. This has been a tradition for over 20 years.”

The diner is open most days of the week. The restaurant is open from 6:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. from Sunday to Wednesday, Thursday they are closed, Friday they go from 6 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., and Saturday they are open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

If you find time, come down and get some breakfast and try some delicious food at Mel’s diner!
