An outstanding student, a dedicated athlete, and an encouraging peer are all things that describe a particular person. This week, we shine the spotlight on a very special senior here at Concord, Jordyan Metcalf.
Jordyan first started attending Concord in kindergarten, transferred to a different school from second to fifth grade, then back in sixth grade, and has been with us ever since. She explains that some of her favorite memories here include her sophomore year lunch table and her experiences with “Flex Wednesdays” during her freshman year.
Outside of school and sports. Jordyan enjoys spending her time with friends and family, working out, reading, and “making her shopping addiction worse.” Jordyan is committed to Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, and plans to become a police officer. She also explains how, later on, she would like to become a DEA officer. As she is attending a college out of state, she says she is looking forward to starting over, meeting new people, and participating in one of her favorite sports at her university. As for her future careers, she says, “I really want to make a difference in other people’s lives like police officers have in my past life. I want to show other kids who were in the same situation that I was in that we can pave the future for ourselves.”

Jordyan’s older brother, Brayden Metcalf, describes his favorite memory with her: “My favorite memory would be a few years ago when I took both her and [Jayden] bowling and got some food. That’s the night I ended up bowling a perfect game in front of them.” Both her younger brother, Jayden, and her mother, Amanda Young, describe their favorite moments involving watching Jordyan wrestle and witnessing her milestones.
When asked about her closest friend, Jordyan first mentioned Saniya Newton. Newton says, “We met during our freshman year. We were taking health and fitness together, and she invited me to join her volleyball group. Soon after that, we worked on a Mental Health Awareness project together… and since then we’ve been friends.” She also mentions her first impression of Jordyan included her being very easy to talk to and being able to easily make people comfortable.
Ms. Kelly’s ninth-grade English class had the biggest impact on her. Jordyan explains how, at first, she hated reading, but Ms. Kelly changed that for her. Jordyan says, “I hated reading, and my reading level was really bad. She kind of helped me find my love for reading, and now I love to read.”
Jordyan is highly respected by the staff here at CHS. Ms. Kelly was fortunate enough to teach Jordyan in not only her freshman and sophomore year, but also currently has her in senior English. “Watching her navigate high school with such determination has been inspiring,” Kelly shares. “Whether she is wrestling, on the softball field, or striving to do her very best in classes, Jordyan approaches everything with a can-do attitude. I’m going to miss her sense of humor, but also her sincerity. She has a really big heart and will undoubtedly make a difference in the world.”
For incoming freshmen, Jordyan shares a piece of advice: “Get your work done at school, do not wait until you get home because you know you’re not going to do it.” Jordyan is a wonderful person, and we are honored to have her here at Concord.
