Responsible, respectful, and courageous: this is Maddox Hutchinson. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on our amazing senior at Concord. Maddox is known for his hardworking personality; whether it’s robotics, music, or athletics, he has made a significant impact in each of these hobbies.
Maddox has attended Concord since kindergarten and has been involved in much ever since. Maddox started the band in 8th grade, cross country and track in middle school, and robotics in elementary school. He shares that his best memories here were winning second at a robotics competition, winning regional, and then experiencing a great time at the state cross country meet..
Whenever Maddox isn’t occupied with his favorite hobbies, he enjoys spending his free time playing video games, watching shows, or being with his family. After high school, he’d like to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at a four-year university, and one of his biggest goals after high school is to become a professional musician. Out of all the amazing things here, Maddox is most sad to leave behind the extracurricular activities.

Out of all the memories with his older brother, Finn Hutchinson explains that one of his favorite memories with Maddox was experiencing cross country and running State with him. Finn admires most how free-spirited Maddox is, as he shares that Maddox is confident and proud of what he does. Finn is impressed by his brother’s humorous personality as he never fails to make those around him smile. One of the most interesting facts about Maddox that Finn shared is how forgetful he is. “Sometimes Maddox forgets to do things that our parents ask him to do, and he’d be caught playing music instead,” Finn added. Their obvious connection seems to go beyond loving siblings to a relationship that includes friendship.
Hutchinson’s closest friend of 10 years is senior Brayden Grindall. He describes his first impression of Maddox as quiet and reserved; however, he soon realized that, “[they] have really similar interests…music and robotics.” This is what made them close. Brayden admires Maddox’s support and describes their friendship as reliant, as they bounce off and help each other through many things. Brayden’s favorite memory with Maddox was a robotics competition when Maddox was being his silly, fun self.
Hutchinson’s favorite teachers are Mr. Specht, who was his old music teacher, and Mr. Simmons, who is his past world history teacher and his current robotics instructor. Upon first meeting Maddox, Mr. Simmons was really impressed with Maddox’s passionate personality and his confidence in what he does. “Throughout the four years I have had him, he has become much more purposeful and observant of all the things around him, always ready to help others and step up as a leader,” Simmons stated.
For any upcoming freshman, Hutchinson’s piece of advice is to be as involved as you can to avoid being a homebody. He suggests this advice because of the opportunities that you’d be exposed to. Maddox is an amazing role model, especially for students who strive to thrive. His significant involvement and his direct kindness present him as a great student who deserves some appreciation from us for his positive impact and attitude that he has had on this school, the sports, and robotics teams!
