To kick off the 3rd Big 8 Cross-Country Jamboree of this amazing season at Concord High School, we honored our three senior runners: Maddox Hutchinson, Cieara Barrett, and Paul Herendeen.
The girls’ race was started off by Audrey Pyle, who led the team with a 2nd place finish in her run. When interviewed, Pyle said this, “My teammates are my favorite part of being on the team.”I just love how positive everyone is to each other and how we can all just encourage each other.”
Audrey Rinehart also had a great run, moving up three places from the previous two jamborees to finish in 6th place. Cieara Barrett was next, finishing 12th place, followed by Braelynn Thorrez. “I like that the running keeps me in shape, especially for my other sports,” explained Thorrez. “I really like hanging out with the team.” Thorrez also earned a new personal record.

The seniors, Maddox Hutchison and Paul Herendeen, who finished in 4th and 5th place, led the Concord boys to the finish. Keaton Smith placed 15th overall, followed by Jase Herendeen and Zane Jason, who both set a new personal record time. Brandon Watkins also had an amazing race, running the fastest time of the season.
“[Cross Country] is really entertaining, especially because every school we go to has a scenic route,” Watkins said. “Cross Country is more of an endurance build for track, but also, my friend Maddox talked me into it. I want to earn more medals; I have one now.”
At the end of the jamboree, the girls won 2nd place as a team overall, and the boys won 4th. Congratulations, Concord team. Cheer on these athletes as they compete Saturday in the Sturgis Kiwanis Invitational!
