Winning on the home court is important and can cause pressure on players, especially in the first home game. But the Varsity Jackets didn’t show any distress on Tuesday, September 16, during their exciting match against Maple Valley. Throughout the game, the crowd was loud and proud of the ladies. They won their first match with confidence, 25-10. In the second match, the girls got into a funk, but soon worked together and won the game 25-15. In the third and final match, the girls found a rhythm and triumphed 25-14.

Throughout the night, senior Bella Coppernoll was constantly on her toes, ready to assist. Before the game, she gets ready by practicing her hits and bumps. She explains that even if she is nervous, she doesn’t try to show it because she knows that her team is on her side and she will do better next time. As it is her last year here, she aims to be a good role model by “uplifting them, being excited for them, and sharing what they can fix.” Practicing for the next game, Coppernoll hopes to work more on staying low while passing.
Her first year on varsity, junior Reagan Mehl is looking forward to the season. Mehl had set some goals for herself and accomplished “getting on the court and doing my best.” As the season goes on, she believes the team does well with communication, but it can improve. Getting ready for the next game, Mehl plans to work on transitioning and staying low.

Starting the night off, JV was pumped to play and confident on the court. In the first match, the Lady Jackets won 25-13. During the second match, the girls were a bit hesitant, but worked together to overcome and win 25-17. In the third match, they worked hard to keep up with Maple Valley, but lost 18-25.

Loud and proud on the court, sophomore Delaney Coburn is excited for the season and is ready to win. Coburn is the main setter on the court; she has had many great sets and hopes to continue expanding her skills. One of her goals was to be uplifting, and the other was to be loud while calling out mine, which is exactly how the night went. Throughout the matches, she has seen a lot of her teammates work hard, but one stepped up the most was “Kaitlyn, because she did a very good job with uplifting people, especially after mistakes.”

Being a new student and joining a new team can be tough, but sophomore Gabriella Thomson didn’t have any problems with becoming a teammate. She was nervous, but her team made her feel more relaxed once they got started. So far, she has been enjoying her time on the team. Throughout the night, she believes they did a great job with keeping each other positive, but believes that “we could work on listening to calls and each other.”
Congratulations to both JV and varsity players. Their next game will be an away game against Stockbridge on Tuesday, 23, at 5:30. Concord wishes the Lady Jackets good luck against Stockbridge.
