New Students in Mrs Sigmans last hour
As the start of the school year has begun, we have welcomed new students to Concord High School. We are excited to grow the school and expand the experiences that come with attending Concord.
For the 2025-2026 school year, we have some significant changes: around 18 new students from all over Michigan have joined us. Some classes are a little different, changing back to seven classes and no seminar. Classes being set up like this give students more stability to complete assignments and focus. This is new for students who have attended Concord before. However new students might be used to these class times. As we all learn and grow together to get the hang of things, it is nice to do it with new people.
Justin Harper is a sophomore who has moved to Concord from Marshall Academy. He explained that Concord is different because it is a new environment, good friends, good teachers, and a bigger school from Marshall. He adds that he enjoys going to Concord, but “the hardest thing about Concord is Spanish class, I enjoy all classes, but the work is a little harder.” He feels that everybody treats him well in school, and teachers are fair. If somebody asked Justin about Concord he would say, “It’s a great school and has great opportunities for growth.” He is excited for the rest of the year to continue to meet more people and focus on school.
Another new student is Jenna Gossett, who is a junior. She moved from Bath, located in East Lansing. She has joined sideline cheer and explains how she really enjoys it and how it has helped create bonds with others. She likes her classes and teachers, but the schedule is different. She adds her opinion about how it was different that we don’t walk around without backpacks and have lockers. On the community part of Concord, she adds, “I would say it’s a good school and everyone gets along pretty well, as well as being treated with respect.”
Te’shon Pearson’s older sister, Ahvi’ana Pearson, began attending Concord last year as a sophomore. He attended Parkside But as he moved into high school, he moved to Concord to be friends that he had already met and to be with his sister. He is very happy with his decision as he enjoys Concord. Pearson explains, “I like that everyone is treated equally and with equal respect for one another. I really enjoy my classes and teachers: they are very

helpful when it comes to my work being tough.” He adds that if he were to tell someone about going to Concord, he would tell them that “it is a great environment for people’s kids to be in; it is a safe and loving community.” There is nothing at Concord that stands out to Te’shon that he doesn’t enjoy.
We are glad that we are able to accept kids from other schools and create bonds with them through sports, classes, and extracurricular activities. As the school year goes on we continue to grow with each other as people and a community.
