On Wednesday, August 27th, the J.V. football team faced Springport for an early-year battle between two great teams. Overall, it was a great day for football, with sunny conditions and numerous great plays made on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field.
One of the many great plays was made by the quarterback, freshman Wyatt Mandrelle, who had an overall great game with his throws, hits, and runs. Mandrelle shares, “I think we did a good job for the first time all of us have played together, there are obviously a lot of things that we need to work on with that being our team chemistry and just our leadership. I thought that I did a good job overall with leadership and trying to get everyone on the same page. There are a lot of different things that I need to work on, but mostly, I thought that I did a pretty good job.”

One of the many great plays throughout the night was a deep ball pass from Wyatt Mandrelle to J.J Davis, who also had a great game and did his duties as receiver for the Yellowjackets. Davis shares his thoughts on the game last night, “I thought the game went really well. I thought we did really well especially for us competing against an eleven man team. I feel like the things we need to work on is definitely our attitudes. We did a pretty good job on it last night, but there was definitely some spots that were rough for us. But overall, it was a great game to see where we will be for the whole season, and I think, based on our performance tonight, it should be a great one.”
Despite the boys facing an opponent that they are not used to, they executed strongly on both sides of the football. Many coaches praised the players for the adversity they had overcome during the match. The JV team showed determination and what true teamwork is truly about during this scrimmage, and we are excited to see what the future holds for this special group of players. Their next game for J.V. is next Wednesday, and the varsity plays tonight at 7 p.m. in Litchfield. Let’s keep supporting them throughout the season and wish them the best of luck.
