With plenty of school spirit in the air, Concord’s varsity track and field teams hosted their second home meet of the season yesterday, April 30—and they did not disappoint. The boys’ team turned in a dominant performance with several PRs and event wins, while the girls also made a strong statement, taking first in multiple relays and individual events.
Boys Results:

The sprint events kicked off dramatically, as Jeff Thomas and Jett Smith delivered a powerful one-two finish in the 100-meter dash, both setting new personal records. Jeff tells me, “ I’m very proud of myself and how I finished. I’m hoping to get even better in my next few races.” In the 200-meter dash, Trenton Frazer sprinted to victory with a PR of his own. Connor Stevens followed up in the 400-meter dash with a commanding first-place finish and personal best.
In the 800, Maddox Hutchinson and Paul Herendeen went back-to-back, finishing second and third, respectively. Hollis Mick ran a strong race in the 1600, securing second place.
The 110-meter hurdles saw a cluster of PRs, with Marcus Gill, Darrell Dean, and Garrett Tyler finishing third, fourth, and fifth. Frazer wasn’t done yet—he also captured a win and a PR in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Concord boys swept all three sprint relays. The 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 relay teams each crossed the finish line first, showing off teamwork, speed, and endurance.
In the field events, Christian Castro placed second in shot put and hit a personal record. Darrell Dean also grabbed second in the high jump, adding another PR to the evening. In pole vault, Maddox Hutchinson took second and set a personal best. Dean capped off his outstanding meet by winning the boys’ long jump with yet another PR.
Girls Results:
The girls’ sprint events were equally electric. Bradie Lehman sprinted her way to first-place finishes in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. In the 200, Hannah Ryan followed closely in second, setting a personal record.
In the 400-meter dash, Cieara Barrett and Annie Saenz finished strong in first and second, respectively. Barrett wasn’t done—she also went on to win the girls’ long jump later in the meet. In the 100-meter hurdles, Mya Barrett claimed second and earned a new

PR. Rakai Hill placed second in the 300 hurdles. She tells me, “I am very happy with how I did, especially compared to upperclassmen. I’m hoping to get more confident in my next few races.”
The girls’ relay teams kept up the momentum. Concord won both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays and earned a second-place finish in the 4×800.
In the shot put ring, Concord made a clean sweep of second through fourth place with Avery Arbuckle, Grace Thorrez, and Bella Coppernoll. Annie Saenz earned a first-place finish in the high jump with a personal best, which she is very proud of. She says, “I hope to improve even more, but I’m genuinely happy with how I did.”
It was a standout meet all around, filled with first-place finishes, hard-earned personal records, and team pride. The Concord track team is off to an exciting start this season.
