Meagan Coleman has been an outstanding athletic trainer for Concord. She has been here for three years, but she has been offered a new job. When Coleman isn’t working, she spends a lot of time reading, doing yoga, or spending time with friends and family. Meg is from Canada, so she grew up playing hockey and is very passionate about it as it is something she loves to do. She is on a team with a few girls she played with at Adrian College, and they still play whenever they are all free.
Meagan has been a very helpful person to have at Concord. She has dealt with many serious injuries and did a fantastic job at handling them. Meagan has loved working at Concord, her first job after college. She explained that “it was challenging to navigate that and create my athletic training philosophy. It took me a minute to be able to help multiple athletes at once to make sure everyone made it to practice on time, but I think I’ve finally got the hang of that.”
Meagan deals with all sports: Football, Volleyball, Wrestling, Cheer, Cross Country, Softball, Baseball, Track and Field, and Golf. When asked what her favorite memories are, she says, “My favorite memories are being part of the homecoming/snowcoming festivals. Growing up in Canada, we didn’t have homecoming like high schools do, so experiencing that for the first time was a unique experience.” She really enjoys working with the volleyball team because it is a sport she really enjoys watching. Other than volleyball she really likes working with contact sports like football or wrestling because they keep her on her toes and she is usually busy during those sports and likes being busy.
Sophomore athlete, Adam Miller has a lot to say about Meg. Adam has been injured three times in the past three years; he says how every time he was hurt she helped him through it and assured him that everything would be fine. Meg is a very resourceful person to come to when it’s about sports mentally and physically. Miller expressed what would stick with him the most after Meg left: “Something that I will remember the most about Meg is the conversations we had about school sports and life. almost every day I would go into her room and we would chat about how our days were and that was nice because I knew I had someone to talk to about anything.” Meg in general is just a very calm person to have conversations with. Not only is she a great trainer but a great friend. Adam is grateful that Meg always helps people and never puts
them off. Miller shares, “There are many things I want Meg to know but if I had to pick one, it is how words cannot describe how much she will be missed not just by me but by everyone in the school. You are one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life, and just thank you for everything that you have done for me from injuries at school to just being a good friend and always listening, just thank you and good luck in life. Thank you!”
Another athlete Meg has worked with in the past has some things to add about Coleman. Jordyan Metcalf, a junior who participates in volleyball, wrestling, and softball adds that Meg has always been there for her athletes; she helps in the best way she can. Metcalf explains, “Meg has always helped me a lot during wrestling; she always keeps the positive thoughts and doesn’t let me give up when things get hard.” Something that Jordyan wants Meg to know is that she is proud of her for moving on with her career and that we will miss her very much.
Arshawn Parker, the Varsity girls basketball coach also has some positive things to say about Coleman. He states, “I think she has been amazing; she knows her stuff and is very supportive to students and coaches. It is a very heartfelt situation that she is no longer going to be working here anymore. There will definitely be a gap in athletics. She will be a hard person to replace not just because of the position but because of her as a person.”
Meg is a very helpful, determined, and kind person outside of being an athletic trainer. She’s always there for her athletes to help them, not only with sports injuries but outside-of-school issues as well. Meagan has been such a great help to Concord and will be extremely missed, but we wish her the best of luck.
