As January comes to an end, a new set of students are chosen for the Student of the Month award. These students are chosen for their contribution and enthusiasm towards making the school a better place; here is some insight into each one of them.
For the freshman, Rakai Hill was chosen. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, painting, and shopping. She is a part of the indoor track team, and outdoor track team, and does dance. Currently, her two favorite classes are Spanish with Mr. Saucedo and Art with Mr. Couling. Her future career plan is to become an interior designer/ decorator. When asked what her favorite part of school was, she responded: “All the classes I have with Katie and when I get to see Mrs. Kayla.”
The chosen sophomore was Haley Stimer. She is successful both in academics and athletics, participating in five sports throughout the school year. She is a part of the cross country team, golf team, basketball team, track team, and softball team. When she is not at school or a sporting event, she likes to spend her time working on her family farm and just being outside in general. In the future, she is planning to attend college. Since it is still early in her school career, she is uncertain about what exact career she wants but knows she wants to do something in the medical field. Stimer explains why she wants to go into this field: “I want to do this because I like helping people.” Her advice to other students in order to succeed is to build good study habits and avoid distractions.
Next up is junior Jaylin Knoblett. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her friends and going online shopping. She is involved in Varsity Volleyball, the student council, and the prom committee. Her favorite class this year has been Spanish Culture of Modern Language with Mr. Saucedo. She explains why, “I love learning about the past of Mexican culture and how it affects the present day.” After high school, she aspires to attend The University of Chicago to major in pre-med. Knoblett knows that to do this she must keep up her grades. When asked what tips she has for other students to succeed, she responded: “Just stay on top of your work and do not let yourself fall behind.”
Lastly, for the seniors is Grace Thorrez. Her hobbies consist of playing sports, sleeping, hanging out with her family, playing piano, and eating. She shares which of the three sports she plays is her favorite: “Basketball is my favorite because it is both a mental and physical challenge. I also love the competition, it keeps it interesting.” Next year, she will be attending Spring Arbor University to study business and to play on the basketball team. Thorrez adds that self-discipline is what allows her to get good grades. She says, “My conscience eats at me when I know I am supposed to do something. I can’t go on with my day until I get my assignment turned in with a good grade.”
We congratulate all these exceptional people for winning this award and wish them the best of luck in everything in their future.
