This week, we are shining a community spotlight on a well-loved business: Concord Meats and Sweets. It is a family-owned business that has been serving local buyers for years.
Being a police officer for 37 years, Samuel Sinden took it as not just his job but his duty to serve his town, community, and people. When he opened up Concord Meats and Sweets, he served his community in a different role, and now his daughter, Laurie Sinden, is carrying on that legacy. In 2012, Samuel “Steve” Sinden retired from being a police officer, and he and his wife Tammy started their own business, “Concord Meats and Sweets.” Around a year after the business originally started, Tammy sadly passed away, and in October of 2023, Samuel sadly passed, leaving the business to his daughter Laurie Sinden.
Concord Meats and Sweets is a three-generation female-run business, run by Laurie Sinden, her mother, Heidi Haba, and her daughter Bailey. Laurie primarily runs the business but is greatly assisted by, and wouldn’t work without her mother, Heidi. Heidi produces many new ideas for the business to run better, brings in many customers, and does much more for the business. Located in downtown Concord, Meats and Sweets is a business primarily focused on serving its community and providing quality meats, cheese, and sweets. For the past 12 years, the business has been most famous for its homemade brats.
When asked what sets them apart from different restaurants, Sinden states, “We make them all homemade, and we have around 42 different kinds, which not a lot of restaurants have authenticity and variety like us.”
Teresa Couling is a regular customer at Concord Meats and Sweets. Couling says, “This place feels so different from others because Laurie is always trying to add something new to the store to make it better.” She also states, “I visit there a few times a month depending on the season, and all their selections are great. I have several friends that go there and are always complimenting how great their steak, prime rib, marinated chicken, or bacon is, and if I haven’t tried it, that I should.” Couling strongly believes that Laurie is doing an awesome job carrying out her father’s legacy.
Mr. Matt Lehman is another regular customer at Concord Meats and Sweets, noting that he visits 2-3 times per week. Lehman states the quality of meat here is excellent, and when asked what his favorite and most important items to get from there were, he quotes, “-all sorts of things, including meat, chicken, bacon, and city chicken. I also get their cheese/meat snack bowls and most importantly, pickled asparagus and dilly green beans.”
Lehman likes going there because, “of the friendly service and quality products!” Lehman feels like it’s important to always support your community, and shop local, which you would be doing by shopping at Concord Meats and sweets.
If you are ever in need of any “meats or sweets” make sure to come and visit Laurie Sinden and Heidi Haba to support the family-owned business!
