This past Saturday, the school gym was buzzing with excitement as our cheer team proudly hosted a regional cheer competition. The event drew teams from across the area, each eager to showcase their routines and compete for top honors. The atmosphere was electric, with the gym packed full of parents, students, and supporters who cheered loudly for every team. From high-flying stunts to perfectly synchronized choreography, it was a day full of athleticism and school spirit.
Our cheer team has been preparing tirelessly for this competition, putting in countless hours of practice to perfect their routine. Their hard work paid off as they performed with energy, precision, and confidence, earning them 9th place out of 11 teams. While they didn’t crack the top spots, the performance demonstrated their growth as a team and their determination to keep improving. The crowd was impressed by their enthusiasm and spirit, and their effort on the mat was undeniable.
This competition was especially meaningful because of the makeup of this year’s squad. With so many freshmen on the team, this was a new
and challenging experience for many of the members. They’ve worked hard to learn the routines, bond as a group, and rise to the high expectations of competitive cheer. Their resilience and teamwork were evident in their performance, proving that this young squad has a bright future ahead.
Emma Sigman says, “I’m so proud of how hard this team has worked and how far they’ve come this season. Whether it’s their first or last year, they gave it their all and left everything on the mat.”
Sophomore Evelyn Goldsmith shares that for her, “This season has really shown me how much we’ve all grown as a team. It’s exciting to see the freshmen learning and improving, and it motivates all of us to keep pushing harder.”
Hosting the competition added an extra layer of responsibility for the team, as they balanced the pressures of performing with ensuring the event ran smoothly. From helping with setup to welcoming the visiting teams, they played an active role in creating a successful and well-
organized event. The sense of school pride was palpable throughout the day, and the team’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed by the crowd.
While finishing 9th wasn’t the result they hoped for, the cheer team is taking this experience as a chance to learn and grow. Competitions like this are about more than rankings—they’re about building skills, strengthening bonds, and representing the school with pride. This performance will serve as motivation as the team heads into the next phase of their season, determined to keep improving and push for higher scores in the future.
Alysson Lebron tells me, “Cheerleading has definitely helped me become more confident and disciplined. I’ve learned how to work as part of a team, trust others, and step up as a leader when I need to. ”
No matter the outcome, the team continues to demonstrate what makes them special: their dedication, teamwork, and love for the sport. With this season’s momentum and the underclassmen’s promise, the cheer program’s future looks brighter than ever.
