During the holiday season, some families endure hardships to provide food and gifts for their families. The Concord community churches are working together to help support these families.
The student council is working with the churches. It has provided a competition that started Monday, November 18 for students to win a pizza party and VIP seating for the volleyball tournament on Friday, December 13, when they donate non-perishable food items, gifts, and monetary donations for the Concord and Pulaski community. Each item or dollar provides one point for the seminar. The seminar with the most points by Wednesday, December 11, will win the competition.
Mrs.Osterhout says, “Our main purpose is to support the community churches in providing enough to deliver these Christmas baskets to people in our community.” In addition, she also adds that pre-covid the school would do this fundraiser and support the community greatly every year.
This fundraiser has positively impacted our students as well, this fundraiser has made students excited to help out and support the community. Adding a small competitional matter to a fundraiser has been a great way to get students involved and excited to donate.
Hannah Stimer, Student Council president explains, “I think it’s important because we get to give food and stuff for Christmas to families that aren’t able to get that stuff, even if they are it’s providing extra support to them, and knowing we are there for them in the holiday season.” She also adds that she’s excited to see how the competition plays out and is excited to see the students supporting their community.
The Student Council will work hard to provide this fundraiser for the students. They will take turns collecting non-perishables and gifts from the classrooms and using their own time to support the fundraiser. They are excited to help the community, and it shows in all of their hard work.
Danielle Fritz, student council vice president adds, “I think it is good to give back to the community, especially people who are less fortunate”. She also says that she’s excited to see the competition winners and see them having fun after they have helped the community so much.
Some of the smallest things can bring a huge load of joy to families in need, even something you could find in your kitchen cabinet. During this season it is an amazing time to spread love to your community even as a student.
