The 4-0 Lady Jackets took the court against Stockbridge on Tuesday night, October 1, 2024. They put their all into the game, working together to pull through and win the game improving their record
Varsity came out strong and won the game: 25-14, 25-18, 25-7. Senior Iyla Weeks led the team’s offense with 16 kills, 9 digs, 2 assists, and went 9/9 with all of her serves.
Freshman Annie Saenz is an integral part of this year’s team and believes motivation is important on and off the court. Saenz states, “Definitely keeping each other up, like talking when we messed up; We were each other’s biggest supporters.” She also spoke about the communication with her teammates on and off the court.
Iyla Weeks mentioned the team’s positive energy, and that they were restructuring after losing a player. She says, “We really wanted to win and prove to everyone that we were just as strong.”
Both Saenz and Weeks talked about the movement happening on the court and how it could have been improved. Overall the girls played very well and came out on top, winning the game.
The JV team also fought very hard all the way to the end, but just could not finish and lost the game: 13-15, 13-15, and 20-25. Freshman Addison Riske leading the night with serves going 5/5 with 2 aces, a kill, and 3 digs.
Sophomore Reagan Mehl says that she is proud of “the girls’ perseverance to get the ball over the net but feels like they could have improved in their communication on the court.”
JV coach Bailey Austin Sinden reflects on the season and states, “I have definitely seen growth in each and every one of their skills, but not only their skills, their confidence, and aggressiveness too”
The girls have a tri-match tonight, October 3, 2024, against Grass Lake and Hillsdale Academy. JV starts at 5:30 and Varsity at 7:00. Show up and support the ladies. Good Luck Jackets!
