This week, we are shining the spotlight on Concord’s very own Tyreke Brown. Many friends would describe him as funny, curious, and creative. A good friend to all, Brown has impacted many of the students around CHS with his outgoing personality, not only in school but also in athletics and out-of-school activities, which is why we are honored to have him as our senior spotlight for this week.
Tyreke has been attending Concord since he was in fourth grade. One of his first memories during school comes from fifth-grade camp. He says, “When I was at fifth-grade camp, I discovered a lot of my friends, who are still many of my friends to this day.”
Although Tyreke does not participate in many extracurricular activities, he participates in many sports: track, basketball, and cross country. His favorite sport is track, in which he has numerous achievements throughout his years in high school. One of his many accomplishments is winning the state championship for the 4X200 meter relay, and being named all-state for two years in a row. He is also one of the fastest runners on the team.
Mr, Jursek, the track and cross country coach here at Concord, was thrilled to talk about the accomplishments Brown has in sports and running. Jursek shares, “Tyreke is a very quiet, well-mannered, nice young man. The thing I like about him the most is he wants to better himself and sticks up to his goals and aspirations to go to college. He ran cross country this year, which is one of the hardest sports. He ran it just because he wanted to get in better shape for basketball and improve on his track accolades, for which he is a state champion and multiple-time all-state athlete now. He is just a hard-working, fine young man.”
Jett Smith is a good friend and teammate who plays varsity basketball with Brown. Smith shares his favorite things about him: “My favorite thing about Tyreke is his honor. He’s a good friend, he’s always real, and he’ll always tell you what’s right and what’s wrong, but he’s a great guy.” Smith loves “chilling and playing NBA 2K with Tyreke” and sometimes “attending college parties at Albion College” to see former Concord alums.
Mrs. Colangelo shares some of her favorite things about Tyreke on the academic side, she shares, “ I love Tyreke’s quiet intelligence, he’s so smart, he’s so quiet and he doesn’t flaunt it, he’s so determined to understand things and to get his work done but not blatantly, it’s different from a lot of kids.”
Brown talks about the inspiration in his life, he says, “my mom” because “She raised me into the person that I am today, she took care of me and she’s great.”
Brown considers for a minute and offers his best advice for incoming freshmen:“Stay on top of your work. When I was a freshman, I had bad grades. I got them up, but it took a long time, so stay on top of your assignments.” Despite a rough start, after high school, Brown plans to attend Jackson College and then transfer to Albion College.
We are honored to recognize Tyreke for his accomplishments here at CHS. We thank him for the examples he has set for numerous students here at Concord and wish him the best of luck wherever his life brings him in the future. We know he will do great things!!
